The future of television
In a previous post, I talked about content living at the edges of the network and how the current broadcast model of one-to-all was missing an opportunity.
Well, now those edges are being given a voice in a small Austrian village. A pilot project is underway to empower the local community to create their own internet-based news channel. Telekom Austria has provided the equipment and training necessary to help them produce this microcontent. Once ready, it’s uploaded to a portal and made available to all.
The scheme has been a great success and more rollouts are planned in other rural areas. I’m sure a similar project in Belgium could breed more interesting content than the mostly lifeless over-subsidised rubbish found on local cable channels.
