Backpack connects to the outside

Backpack, the deservingly much-hyped online service, now offers an API for anyone wanting to interface directly with it. This opens the doors to all kinds of neat possibilities, and I’m sure we’ll be seeing dashboard widgets, system notifiers and whatnot very shortly. What I’d really love is to see integration with Tinderbox which I use for most of my information management.

In case you’ve been hiding under a rock recently, Backpack lets you organise your notes, todo lists, reminders, images, files and more within an elegant and deceptively simple web interface.

A very basic application example: we use it as a centralised shopping list. I update it via my browser or, if I’m on the move, via the mobile-phone-specific web interface. The page/list is shared with my girlfriend who can also add and remove items. She doesn’t have web-access at work however, so during office hours, if she thinks of something, she can simply send an email to the page and the content gets added to the list.

The list can either be printed when needed, or accessed via mobile. Geeky but neat.
